What a stunning accomplishment for President Bush. He avoided posting the biggest budget deficit of all time and -- thanks to some one-time savings, according to economists -- Bush has racked up "only" a $333 billion deficit for fiscal 2005.
Break out the champagne! While predictions are always difficult, it's nice to keep in mind that four years ago Bush told the American people he would show fiscal discipline and achieve a $269 billion SURPLUS. So he was only off by $600 billion....
