Unfortunately, the lack of support from the administration made keeping the public option in the bill an uphill struggle.In all fairness here, it's not like Feingold threw down the gauntlet either. Without his vote, the bill can't pass. But we never heard any of the liberal Senators saying definitely that they wouldn't vote for this without the public option, etc. So it's not a surprise that they got rolled.
