Peter Mayle and "Alowine" in France

| Reddit | Tumblr | Digg | FARK

Something light and funny for the Halloween season. In Paris, Halloween - or Alowine as it's called here - probably peaked around 2000 or so. It's still there but not very present the way it was. When the French started to reach their limit with Bush, all things American started to be swept up and tossed out along the way. At the end of the Peter Mayle article is a tasty sounding recipe using pumpkin. French potiron has more flavor than the taller and rounder US variety. Using it for soup is a staple for meals this time of the year and it disappears from the store shelves very quickly.
