In all fairness to the GOP, over the past few decades they've gotten mighty used to having presidents (Bush, Reagan), candidates (McCain/Palin), and heroes (Joe the Tax Cheat) who aren't exactly going to be inducted in to Mensa any time soon. Having a president with "ideas" must come across as pretty scary to a party with none.
