Big surprise that Bush has no plans for a shake up in his team. Now we can expect daily efforts to change the subject (SCOTUS announcement, bird flu plan, etc) but no matter how hard the White House tries to change the subject, it is always going to come back to a few key points:
- Iraq - a war based in lies, poorly planned, mounting casualties, mounting costs and a civil war is not out of the question.
- Oil - these prices are staying high for a while. If the winter is as cold as some are predicting, expect more anger as costs brutalize the public.
- Ongoing scandals - even with the Libby indictment and Rove still a target, the full extent of the Jack Abramoff scandal has yet to kick into full gear and that guy touched everyone who is anyone in the GOP. Add to that Frist's stock deal plus DeLay and his problems are the GOP should be expecting a real winter of discontent.
