Breaking: Maryland's Governor to Veto Gay Rights Bill

If anyone ever asks you if elections matter, remember this day. Today, Maryland's Governor Bob Ehrlich is vetoing the state's gay rights bill according to the Washington Post:

Maryland Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. has decided to veto emotionally charged legislation that would grant unmarried couples, including gay partners, certain rights if they register with the state.

Ehrlich (R) will detail his reasoning in a veto message to be released later this afternoon, spokesman Henry Fawell said.
Ehrlich has tried to present himself as a moderate. He isn't. His action today is hateful and spiteful. Today, he is officially a leading gay-basher. This is how the Post explains the legislation:
Modeled on laws in California, Hawaii and other states, the legislation would have granted nearly a dozen medical and funeral-related rights to unmarried partners who register with the state. Among the rights: to be treated as an immediate family member during hospital visits, to make health care decisions for incapacitated partners and to make private visits in nursing homes.
Which brings us to a question: Why is Bob Ehrlich so freaked out by gay people? I mean, c'mon...what is it about gays that gets under his skin.

Anyway, this is a setback in a state where gays shouldn't have setbacks. So, Ehrlich should know how people feel about this...and if you want to tell him, here's the link to his contact info:
